Want to Earn Extra Money?

Whether you have a day job and are looking for a little extra money, you have a business of your own but just want to earn enough for something you want or need, you are looking to build a career, or you want several part-time gigs, a side hustle might just be the answer you are looking for.

I work about 32-35 hours a week as a Front Desk Agent at a hotel. On the side, I do Social Media Customer Service for some of the hotels our owners manage/own. I also do some writing and proofreading for a few extra dollars here and there. And I write ebooks that I earn a little bit from throughout the year. I could probably do more selling if I were better at advertising or wanted to spend more time on it. I also make and sell handmade cards.

My daughter owns her own cleaning business. She makes good money on that venture. On the side she has created her own gig and earns a little that way.

My bestest has a business where she goes into people’s home who need help with light housekeeping, personal care and other things. She also does a little lighter duty cleaning for a couple of people, and recently took on a position at a nursing home a day or two a week.

Is it enough to say we are busy women?

For many, side hustles/gigs/whatever you want to call them are becoming more and more important. Our dollars are just not stretching as far these days. We also have new things we want to try. Maybe we are working our way up to not needing that day job. Or maybe we just want something else to do, that can ultimately help us to pay off some debt.

Whatever our reason(s), we are taking on more and more. We are working to stay afloat, to experience new things, and to have the money we need to get through.

Activity: There are so many options for side hustles, and I suggest you sit down think about things you might be interested in doing. Take out your planning notebook or binder and brainstorm some ideas. What might you enjoy? What might you be good at? What are you interested in? What can you find time for? What can you do while your children sleep? Or while they are in school? What can you do while sitting down in the evenings to watch television?

Am I saying that you always have to be busy? Absolutely not! No one wants that, and everyone needs downtime to recharge. I am only suggestion you might be able to spend little extra time to earn some more money if you need or want to. But be sure not to burn yourself out over it.

Here is a list of possibilities. The book below, one of my own, also has many other ideas for you.

  • Make altered notebooks to sell.
  • Bake and sell dog treats.
  • Pet sitting.
  • House sitting.
  • Offer giftwrapping services.
  • Do people’s laundry at your home. They can pick up and drop off.
  • Offer elder care services where you go in and visit with the elderly, maybe cooking for them and doing easy tasks such as dishes. Also, playing their favorite games with them such as Cribbage or Yahtzee.
  • Making soaps to sell.
  • Cleaning out storage units, sheds, barns, and attics for people. As an added bonus a lot of people will likely let you keep items you find. You could hold a yearly yard sale with those items or sell them on the marketplace. You might also fix old things up to flip.
  • Organize people’s homes or offices.
  • Do bookkeeping for small businesses. Or teach people to keep their own books and help them to get a filing system set up.
  • Bake and cook for family members. Offer to do their holiday baking for them as well.

As you can see, there are a good many things you could do.

We’d like to hear what side hustles you are incorporating into your life already, or what you plan to do. Feel free to comment about what you are doing. I’d love to hear from you.
